Cyberella: The Comic Book
- What is Cyberella?
Cyberella was a monthly 32 page comic book published by DC Comics under the Helix banner. It was written by Howard Chaykin and illustrated by Don Cameron. 12 issues were published from July of 1996, until the cancellation of the title in July 1997.
- What is Helix?
Helix is DC Comics' line of Science Fiction comics. The stories usually take place in the 21 century, and deal with such diverse genres as telepaths, corporate-ruled worlds, and even vampires. Some of the titles published by Helix are Dead Corps(e), The Dome, and Michael Moorcock's Multiverse. The line met its end in 1998, since the only ongoing Helix title, Transmetropolitan, was moved to the Vertigo line.
- Will there ever be a collected edition/sequel of Cyberella?
Unfortunately, no. In a recent Usenet post, Stuart Moore, Senior Editor for Vertigo and Helix, stated that a collected edition or sequel was "unlikely."
However, a collected edition has been made for Michael Moorcock's Multiverse, which was published under the Vertigo banner.
- Will any more Cyberella stories ever be published?
Well, when I asked Don Cameron, he had this to say:
"I'll send more details later. I'm working on a Cyberella special. It has already been written and lettered. I'm also doing some
art with Chaykin besides my animation work."

Who is Kelton Mosby? - Where on Earth is Slangeliego? Last Updated: January 11, 2000
Kelton Mosby is the founder of Mosby Studios, which would later become Karoshi/Macrocorp. He produced a series of films starring one Ella Fiscus, a child star who later died in a factory accident. He then created the Lil Ella character, which caught on quickly to become an American icon. Mosby died in 1966, leaving the company in the hands of Bronson Travis.
Who is Bronson Travis?
Bronson Travis is the founder of Macrofamily, which merged with Mosby's company and escalated the corporate development of Karoshi/Macrocorp. Travis achieved control of the American public through the use of alien technology pilfered from the Roswell crash. He then spent much of his time trying to destroy Mosby and remove the CEO from his executive position. Travis was largely unsuccessful, and later gained control upon Mosby's death.
Travis was later booted out by his son, Bronson Travis II. Travis II used the same techniques as his father. Travis II would later meet his end at the hands of his own son, Travis III. Travis III tried to enact the unltimate corporate merger by opening a wormhole to hell and dealing with the Devil himself. Travis III was later killed by his assistant, Jon Hexem.
(Note: A later retcon negated the existence of Travis I, placing BT II at Roswell, etc.)
"And the capital of the twenty first century is the greatest city in the world, Slangeliego...where downtown used to be Tijuana and uptown used to be Vancouver..." - Cyberella #1
Got that? It's a megalapolis which dominates the western coast of the former United States.
- Who is Cyberella?
Ah, now we come to our story. Cyberella started out as a program, designed by Karoshi/Macrocorp to keep the masses under control while keeping a close eye on them. She was based on Lil Ella, the character created by Kelton Mosby after the death of the real Ella. The world became obsessed with that character, eventually leading to the rise of the current Karoshi/Macrocorp structure, as well as it's grip on future society.
The concept changed with K/M's wormhole project. It backfired, melding the persona of Cyberella with that of Sunny Winston, an 'ordinary' citizen who was exhibiting abnormal behavior in the first place. She was a former lover of Bronson Travis III, which may contibute to some of said behavior.
Now Cyberella is a combination of the two, with various 'super' powers. These include the ability to meld with the minds of others, particularly men, and become what they percieve her to be. She is constantly thwarting the plans of K/M, all while trying to keep a grip on her reality.
- Jon Hexem...
Former CFO of Karoshi/Macrocorp. He killed Bronson Travis III after the wormhole mess, and later took a position under Travis's replacement, Belair Edom. He was degraded in rank upon the return of Ella Fiscus.
- Ella Fiscus? Isn't she dead?
Yes. But Cyberella found her body in a secret bunker and brought her back to life. She took control of the company, taking the CEO position and restucturing the company, offering Cyberella protection from the inner corporate workings of K/M.
- R.J. MacReady...
The last survivor of Roswell. An alien with three brains, turned obsessed fanboy. Big fan of Cyberella. After the crash, the citizens pilfered the technology, using it to advance commerce and technology. All of the aliens were killed except for MacReady, who was kept around in case there were problems with the new technology.
It seems unlikely we will ever see MacReady again, since the last issue has Cyberella stating, "you're another one that won't be coming back."
What is Roswell?
Where have you been? Roswell, New Mexico, is the site of a supposed spaceship crash back in 1947. The government denies the whole thing, saying it was a weather balloon, and the 'bodies' found were just test dummies. Hah.
Where is Area 51?
No one knows. Supposedly somewhere in the Southwest. It's where the government keeps all their dirty little secrets. MacReady lives in a small shack there.
- Who is the Lone Gunman?
The narrator. He provides inside info on the myth of Karoshi/Macrocorp, as well as his own smart assed comments. The only one who ever heard him was Cyberella, who would later inquire about his disappearance.
What happened to him?
Don't know. Supposedly on 'hiatus.' Replaced by Solomon.
Who the hell is Solomon?
Another narrator, with a tendency to be condensending. Maybe a newer version of the Lone Gunman program? Interacts with Cyberella and R.J. MacReady. Supposedly working with Jon Hexem.
