150 years prior to the adventure the planet Kaeltyr was settled by both Woostoid and Gotal species. Both species soon were mining the planet's rich metal deposits. Roughly 100 years later the planet was surveyed by the Arden Corporation. It wasn't long before Arden had come in and purchased the mining rights from the planet's residents. That was the beginning of the conflict, for Arden began to foster hatred between the races, enslaving both in indentured servitude to mine the mines. To insure the conflict would continue, the Arden Corporation mandated that the Woostoid miners use droids, whose power supply EM emissions cause pain to the Gotal miners.
8 years prior to the adventure the Republic sent a Jedi, Dath Modon, to investigate and attempt to put an end to the suffering caused by Arden's business practices. He spent several months attempting to ascertain the exact causes of the problem, during which time he met a local human girl, Alesha Tet. Soon he fell in love, and handed in his resignation to the Jedi, marrying Alesha, and vanishing into obscurity.
3 weeks prior to the adventure, the Republic tried again, sending the investigator Mar Alat, a Kel Dor agent of the Senate, to investigate Arden's practices. He was killed under mysterious circumstances, namely that a docking bay shield went weapons grade as his ship was docking, destroying it instantly. Now highly suspicious of Arden, the Republic petitioned the Jedi to send a new mission to investigate the corporation and the Republic agent's death. (Enter the PC's).
