More and more of the students graduating from the military academy are finding themselves drafted into service to the Sith. Graduates of the Caolana Military Academy have always been renowned for their skill and discipline, and it is not uncommon for students to leave Celes in search of mercenary work, or even find themselves actively sought after by extraplanetary governments. We have always been secure in the knowledge that wherever these students ended up, our planet was safe by virtue of the unending patriotism of these individuals, as well as the strong military reputation itself providing a shield by forcing potential invaders to think twice about coming. Yet in recent years more and more graduates have been leaving Celes for the Sith military, abandoning their heritage in favor of Sith training. This trend can be directly linked to an upswing in the birth of Force-sensitive children here on Celes, combined with an increase in military recruits as a result of the Sith Civil War. What exactly is causing the increase in births, though, is debatable.
It is easy to blame the current batch of talented individuals as the result of a century of interbreeding with the Sith. However, this planet has a history of Force-sensitivity that predates the Sith takeover by perhaps centuries. Official records that would confirm a long history were regrettably destroyed in the Second Civil War, most likely on purpose. But personal accounts do point to some incidents as presenting the possibility that select members of the nobility may have been possessed of great power.
The most famous instance of this would be the House Marcana in the years immediately preceding the coup. The leaders, starting with Marik Railea, were renowned for their ability to negotiate with the toughest of opponents, which surely led to their continued dominance of House Marcana and the Council. Those who had dealings with the last leader, Ido Andrev, often reported "feeling weird" or not understanding why they agreed to certain provisions. Some have even felt they "were not in control" of their own words and actions. Resentment at the Marcana leadership's uncanny ability to get what they wanted probably made the call for their disposal a lot more palptable to many of the lesser Houses. Whether or not the family possessed Force powers of any sort, their ability to negotiate did contribute greatly to unifying the Houses and creating diplomatic and trade agreements with neighboring systems. This reputation would catch the attention of the Republic, bringing the Jedi to Celes.
It is known that the Jedi visited here on a number of occasions. At least two instances were related to disputes with neighboring systems, namely Sullust and the Tapani Sector. But other visits had no public political goal, and one can only speculate based on the timing. It is interesting to note that the last visit by Jedi before the coup was shortly after the birth of the second daughter to Ido Andrev. Another interesting fact to consider is that all of the elected leaders starting with Marik shared certain physical characteristics, and reports say that this girl "looked just like her father." As the Marcanas were very protective of their children until they came of age, no public records exist to support this last rumor. The Jedi are known for recruiting their apprentices as young children, so this could be a reason for some of their visits to the House Marcana. Presumably the Marcanas would not be very receptive to surrendering their future leaders over to an order known for political neutrality. Additionally, it is said that the Jedi creed prohibits them from using their powers to override the wills of other sentients, directly running counter to the stories told about the Marcanas.
The revolution becomes interesting in this context when examining the list of those executed in the initial coup. The Marcanas were an obvious and necessary target in a government coup, but extra pains were taken to eliminate several smaller related Houses. These Houses had little political power or influence, and the majority of them were even supportive of the revolution. The one thing these Houses had in common was that at some point they had either branched off of or intermarried with House Marcana, thus sharing several bloodlines. The most prominent were wiped out in a short period, and over time other Houses were slowly eliminated. The decrees ordering the elimination of certain Houses and bloodines remain in effect today, and every few years someone with a particular set of genetics is discovered and rounded up. It is second nature to us now, but in the beginning extensive propaganda was utilized. The nobility was demonized, and charged with unfairly manipulating and "bewitching" the people. This is not particularly notable unless you consider that the Jedi arrived to assist, and were treated with the same level of hostility, especially among the officials who instigated the coup.
At this point a conflict arises. There appears to be a history of hatred and distrust among Celesians toward Force-sensitives, but the animosity does not extend so greatly to the Sith. They have largely left us to our own devices, so long as we pay tribute by providing the requested resources. And as mentioned before, some Sith have spawned offspring here, which has resulted in some Force-sensitive individuals. However, the number is disproportionate. It is far more likely that there were survivors of the coup, and the unique genetics that created so many strong leaders for House Marcana has found its way into other bloodlines. There are also reports that Force-sensitive persons may occasionally emerge from families with no previous history of Force power. The Jedi are apt to call it "the will of the Force" but that requires a degree of faith that Celesians will not accept.
The effect that the Sith takeover had appears to be a greater acceptance of Force-sensitivity.
